Statement of Qualifications

James J. DeKleva offers unusually personable service to his clients. With over eighteen years in the practice of criminal law, Jim has the knowledge, experience and perspective to assist individuals facing criminal charges. As a former prosecutor with the State Attorney’s Office for three-plus years, Jim understands both sides of the law and effectively applies that experience in defending cases similar to the ones he once prosecuted.

Jim was lead counsel in over 2,500 criminal cases as a prosecutor and rapidly advanced from traffic and misdemeanor cases to complex DUI’s and felonies. He understands the serious impact of criminal charges and devotes 100% of his practice to defending the rights, under the law, of individuals facing criminal charges.

As a sole practitioner, Jim handles all aspects of representation and continues his personal involvement through every detail of client cases. There is no hand off of details to other partners or associates, but a day-in, day-out participation to effectively represent his clients.

In addition to D.U.I. and Domestic Violence cases, Jim’s broad caseload includes civil matters relating to criminal charges, Criminal Traffic Violations, Probation and Community Control Violations, Theft, Burglary, Trespass, Criminal Mischief, Assignation/Prostitution, Resisting Arrest and Weapons charges, B.U.I., Drug Possession and Battery.

To benefit his clients, Jim offers flexible service and financial terms. He is available evenings and weekends to answer questions about your case. In addition to initial consultations without charge, Jim accepts most major credit cards and can offer financial arrangements to fit your circumstances.
